One of the most important Sanctuaries of Antiquity, dedicated to the father of the gods, Olympius Zeus. Olympia is the place where the Olympic Games were born and played in antiquity.

Olympia, a sanctuary of ancient Greece in Ilia, known as the venue of the Olympic Games in classical times, comparable in importance to the Pythian Games, held in Delphi.

 
 
In Olympia was the statue of Zeus, a work of Pheidias, which was known in antiquity as one of the seven wonders of the world. The starting point of the Olympic Games dates back to 776 ΑD. and was held every four years. In 394 BC. the Byzantine Emperor Theodosius I forbade their act as a pagan event.
